Building Facades inspection (Law 122)

Building Facades inspection (Law 122)

Since March 18th, 2013, the new Chapter VIII / Building of the Safety Code of the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) came into force. This chapter requires building owners to complete a periodic inspection of high rises and multi-storey car park to protect the public from accidents associated with loose components that could come off the building facades or the collapse of concrete structural components. This inspection should be carried out by recognized professional members of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).

Building owners must therefore implement emergency or permanent work to ensure the safety of occupants and the general public.

The owner must also keep a record of the building's maintenance and certify the safety of the building components.
